MUMBAI: A few persons, allegedly from the Samajwadi Party, protested against Booker-winning author Salman Rushdie by shouting slogans.

The protestors, numbering less than 30, assembled outside the Godrej residence in suburban Juhu on Sunday, where they shouted slogans against the author for his work which they said was against Islam and India.

Rushdie had faced flak for his book Satanic Verses published in 1988 which was deemed anti-Islamic by Muslim clerics. The book had been withdrawn from bookstores in the country.

Police provided additional security outside the Godrej residence where the author, who is on a private visit, was staying.
