The Samajwadi Party on Saturday wrote to senior party legislator Shivpal Yadav and SBSP chief and ally OP Rajbhar that they should "feel free to go where they think they will get more respect".

SP’s letters to Shivpal Yadav and Rajbhar - made public by the party on its Twitter handle- were in response to the statements the two had allegedly been making against SP chief Akhilesh Yadav since the assembly elections ended, with their support for NDA's presidential nominee Draupadi Murmu likely becoming the final straw.

In the letter to Rajbhar, the party also alleged that the SBSP has "colluded" with the BJP and is continuously working towards strengthening it.

Rajbhar, who was recently provided Y-level security by the Centre—a move being interpreted by some as a reward for supporting Murmu--said he accepted the "divorce" letter. Rajbhar said that during the Assembly elections, he kept urging Yadav to give more tickets to the most backward and Dalit candidates, but his advice was not heeded. He said that when Mulayam Singh Yadav met Yogi Adityanath it was okay with the party, but when he met him, then there was a problem, saying his "next destination will be BSP".
