SP MLC Swami Prasad Maurya booked over his remarks on Ramcharitmanas

SP MLC Swami Prasad Maurya was booked on Tuesday for his comment that 'Ramcharitmanas contained sections which were casteist and that those sections should be banned'.

Meanwhile, while SP continued to maintain its distance from Maurya's statement, BJP intensified its attack on Akhilesh Yadav with deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya holding a press conference over the issue and alleging that Yadav's silence on the issue implied his support to the MLC's statement. "Akhilesh Yadav's silence on the issue poses a question on the dip he took in the Ganga in Prayagraj during Kumbh in 2019 and belies his claims that they are descendants of Lord Ram and Krishna," Maurya said.

Senior MLA Shivpal Yadav had earlier in the day said that it was the MLC's personal view and not the party's stand.
