SP leader Azam Khan challenges ED arrest in Supreme Court, plea to be heard later this week

New Delhi: Senior SP leader Mohammad Azam Khan has approached the SC challenging his arrest by the ED, hours after walking out of Rampur jail following his release on bail in a separate case.

The matter was mentioned before a bench headed by CJI Surya Kant on Monday by advocate Nizam Pasha. The CJI agreed to list the plea for hearing later this week. Khan was arrested by the ED on October 31, shortly after his release from Rampur district jail, where he had been lodged since November 2025.

His release followed an Allahabad HC order granting him bail and suspending his 10-year sentence in a dual PAN card case. However, the HC declined to stay his conviction. ED arrested Khan in connection with a money laundering investigation into alleged financial irregularities in the construction of Mohammad Ali Jauhar University in Rampur.
