LUCKNOW: UP CM Akhilesh Yadav and BSP chief Mayawati have asked the Election Commission to take immediate action against BJP leader Amit Shah for his controversial comments on Azamgarh.

The CM said Shah was fomenting communal disturbances and EC should act against him for his inflammatory speeches. Mayawati has urged EC to ban Shah’s movement in the state. On Twitter, Congress leader Digvijaya Singh said: "Modi/Amit Shah have come back to communal campaign from development..."

Also, Aligarh Muslim University Teachers Association has asked EC to "reimpose" ban on Shah for "vitiating the atmosphere by his communal rhetoric". At a public meeting in Azamgarh on Sunday, Shah had said: "They have turned Azamgarh into a base of terrorists..."
