SP accuses guv of being soft on BSP
The issue pertaining to the murder of an engineer allegedly at the hands of a BSP MLA and his goons in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday had its resonance in the national Capital later in the day with the Samajwadi Party asking the Centre to apply the pr...
The party saw in the murder shades of an organised crime, in which BSP leaders had been asked to mobilise funds for chief minister Mayawatis birthday celebrations. Their mandate, according to the SP, was to collect funds, voluntarily or forcibly, as part of an organised campaign. The murder, according to SP general secretary Amar Singh, fell within the purview of the newly-legislated bill, and wanted the Centre to ponder over the issue.
The SP, which called for a statewide bandh on Thursday in protest against the killing of the engineer, is planning to meet external affairs minister Pranab Mukherjee and Congress president Sonia Gandhis political secretary Ahmed Patel in an attempt to explore the possibility of employing the provisions of the UAPA bill.
The party has asked the Centre to intervene on the issue, arguing the engineers murder symbolised the fast-deteriorating law and order situation in the state. The Manmohan Singh government should seek a report on the incident from governor T V Rajeswar, Mr Singh told newspersons here on Wednesday evening.
The SP, in fact, accused the UP governor of being soft on the BSP government in the state. When Mulayam Singh Yadav was the chief minister, he used to send a report to the Centre almost everyday. Why is he silent now ? the SP leader wondered.
