JAIPUR: The Indian Army's South Western Command has deployed its own task force to assist the ongoing rescue and relief mission ' Operation Maitri' in quake-hit Nepal.

"One Engineer Task Force of 21 Engineer Regiment of the Sapta Shakti Command was inducted. It comprises of two Officers, two Junior Commissioned Officers and 32 other ranks," defence spokesperson Lt Col Manish Ojha said.

The Engineer Task Force along with essential equipment and specialised manpower to deal with the situation in Nepal was airlifted by IL-76 Aircraft of the Indian Air Force in the early hours yesterday.

"The task force was mobilised within a short period and has already been deployed in Nepal and carrying out relief and rescue work," the Lt Col said in a release today.
