Sonia to talk to PM on JK industries package
Congress President Sonia Gandhi today assured the Jammu and Kashmir Federation of Industries that she will take up the issue of withdrawal of a package of incentives to the state with the Prime Minister.
The assurance was given after a delegation of the federation met Gandhi, Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and Union Water Resources Minister Saifuddin Soz here, the FOI said in a statement.
She expressed deep concern over the problems facing the industry and assured the delegation that she will take up the issue with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and get it resolved at the earliest, it said.
The delegation apprised the UPA Chairperson that the package of incentives was extended by Central government to the state from 2002 to 2012 but its premature withdrawl amounted to a "breach of trust and committment".
It would result in 25,000 people losing their jobs in the state's industries and create "serious financial difficulties for business as well as labour", the delegation told Gandhi.
Azad and Soz also requested the UPA Chairperson to get the notification withdrawn, the FOI statement said.
