Sonia Gandhi resigns from Nehru Museum Library

NEW DELHI: Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Thursday resigned from her posts at the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library and as member of the National Committee formed by the culture ministry to commemorate 125th birth anniversary of India's first PM Jawaharlal Nehru.

The resignation puts a question mark on the celebrations for Nehru's birth anniversary to be held on November 14 this year.

Earlier, Gandhi family confidant Suman Dubey resigned as member of NMML and part-time board member of Prasar Bharati. Sources said his resignation from Prasar Bharati was received on Wednesday.

With this resignation, the Prasar Bharati board has four vacancies. Besides Dubey's post of a part-time member that will require to be filled, the Board requires a chairperson and two full-time members. Both the positions of members for personnel and finance have been vacant for some time now. Prasar Bharati chairperson Mrinal Pande retired recently after her term expired while member (finance) put in his papers opting for a transfer.

The board that oversees the functioning of the public broadcasters — Doordarshan and AIR — has been conventionally manned by party loyalists with the government using members to wield control over the state-run media.
