Sonia Gandhi must continue as Congress president: SM Krishna
BENGALURU: Former external affairs minister SM Krishna joined the ranks of senior Congress leaders who have insisted that Sonia Gandhi should continue as party president though Rahul Gandhi may have an important role to play.

Krishna, who turned 83 on Friday, said Sonia Gandhi was “indispensable” for Congress, though Rahul Gandhi will be a good way to connect with the 30-year-olds who form about 50% of the country’s population.

He said if Rahul Gandhi could show the people that he was “focussed,” he would “go places”. Krishna is the third former CM, after Sheila Dikshit and Amarinder Singh, to insist that Sonia Gandhi needed to stay as party president. The younger generation of party has been rooting for Rahul Gandhi to take over.
