NEW DELHI: Congress President Sonia Gandhi today expressed shock and dismay over tragic rail accident in Bachrawan in UttarPradesh in which at least 30 people were killed and around 150 others injured.

Extending her condolences to the family of the deceased, Gandhi expressed hope that the government was taking adequate compensation measures, and the injured were being provided ample relief.

The incident took place when the engine and two coaches of the Dehradun-Varanasi Janta Express derailed near Bachrawan Railway Station in Rae Bareili district today.

Gandhi represents Rae Bareili Parliament seat in Lok Sabha.

The accident occurred around 9.10 AM near Bachhrawan Railway station, about 50 km from state capital, Lucknow.
