Sonia Gandhi authorised to name new Himachal CM

SHIMLA: Newly-elected Himachal Pradesh Congress MLAs tonight authorised AICC president Sonia Gandhi to name the Legislature Party leader to head the new government in the state.

The meeting, attended by 34 out 36 newly-elected MLAs, unanimously adopted a resolution in this regard, party leaders said.

HPCC president Virbhadra Singh, architect of party's decisive win in the state assembly poll, moved the resolution which was seconded by senior party leaders Vidya Stokes and Kaul Singh.

Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, Congress General Secretary Janardan Dwivedi and in-charge of party's affairs in the state Barinder Singh attended the meeting as Central observers.
