BAREILY: If the Kanpur rally found Sonia pitchforking Rahul Gandhi to the forefront, Bareily on Wednesday witnessed the Congress president tightening the screws on the SP govt. “Jeb bharne walon ke khilaaf jail bharo (fill jails aginst corruption),” she urged at the second Nav-Nirman rally here.
Addressing the crowd, at the Government Inter College Ground, Ms Sonia alleged there was a nexus between criminals and officials of the state government. She exhorted the people to resist this nexus by filling up jails.
“During last few years, the UPA government has provided enough funds to the state government, but there has been little development,” she said. Ms Sonia also asked that the state government to give a full account of the Central funds utilisation.
The law and order situation is deteriorating, and the state has seen a positive growth only in criminal activities during the reign of SP, she said. Taking a snipe at Mulayam’s ‘Uttam Pradesh,’ she alleged the state was going backward day by day.
“It is the duty of a party in power to think and work for the upliftment and development of Dalits, backward classes, students, youth and the general public. During the revolt of 1857 it was Bareily which was one of the hotbeds. Now the time has come for the people to revolt against the state government, which instead of focusing on the betterment of the state, is giving dole outs to buy votes for the forthcoming elections,” she said.
