Sonia addresses massive rally in Porbandar
Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Friday said the Narendra Modi government was spreading “poison of hatred” among the people.
Speaking at the conclusion of the ‘Cycle Yatra’ organised by her party, which began from Sabarmati Ashram on April 1 to spread the message of Mahatma Gandhi, she said: “The Modi government was spreading poison of hatred among the people while Gandhiji spread the message of love and unity”. She urged the people of Gujarat to remind the state government about its ‘kartvaya’ and ‘rajdharma’ (duty of the state).
“I do not want to speak about what had happened here as everybody knows it. Now, the country needs peace and harmony between all the communities,” she said addressing a huge gathering of people at the Chaupaty maidan facing the Porbandar sea.
Speaking about those who were using Gandhiji’s name for the wrong reason, she said, “They have something else in their hearts and they speak something else”. Giving an example, she spoke about how the 250 cycle rally participants were harassed by some elements who vandalised Gandhi’s poster. She also accused the Gujarat government of not using central fund given for various schemes in an appropriate manner.
