KOLKATA: With verbals attacks continuing on the State Election Commission by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and some ministers, former Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee today expressed disgust and said he had not seen such things during his entire political career.

"In my entire political career I have never seen such attack on a constitutional body like the SEC. I don't know whether such things have ever happened in any other part of the country," Chatterjee said referring to the verbal attacks over holding of panchayat elections in the state.

The five phase rural body elections begin tomorrow. "A constitutional body like the SEC should be allowed to perform its duty freely," he said.
