Something may come out before Christmas or assembly polls: TR Zeliang on Naga peace process

GUWAHATI: While Nagaland chief minister, T R Zeliang is optimistic that something pertaining to Naga peace process will come up before Christmas or assembly polls next year, Manipur chief minister, N Biren Singh said that before any solution states will be consulted by the centre.

In 2015 NSCN-IM and government of India inked framework agreement. A couple of NSCN-IM leaders have claimed that talks are in advance stage and final solution is likely on or before Christmas (December 25).

Talking about the Naga peace process, Zeliang said, “Something will come up before Christmas or before election.” Assembly elections in Nagaland are likely early next year.

Manipur chief minister added, “Before any solution Centre will consult the North eastern states and till now we are not consulted.”

Recently, the interlocutor of Naga peace talks, RN Ravi held talks with the Working Committee of the six Naga national political groups (NNPGs) and civil society organisations.

Recently, Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal met Union Home minister Rajnath Singh and the issue of Nagalim came up for discussion.

Union home minister assured the chief minister that territorial integrity of Assam would not be compromised at any cost and the central government is committed to maintain peace and harmony in the region.

Integration of Naga inhabited areas of Assam, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh is one of core demands of NSCN-IM. There is bitter protest in Assam demanding making public contents of framework agreement.
