Solidarity march in J&K for preacher Zakir Naik
SRINAGAR: Pro-freedom leaders in Jammu & Kashmir have thrown their weight behind the comparative religion scholar Zakir Naik, currently in the middle of a political storm, condemning his unfair trial by the media and terming it a conspiracy to suppress Islamic institutions in India.

Scores of Naik’s supporters took to the streets in Srinagar on Friday, demanding an immediate end to ‘witch hunt’ of the religious scholar, who they claim was targeted ‘unnecessarily’.

Kashmiris also used social media to support Naik, arguing that he’s being targeted selectively with no legal basis, which they said, raises questions on the ‘secular claims of the Indian state’.

J&K Liberation Front chairman Yasin Malik said it clearly exposes the anti-Muslim mindset of the ‘ruling Indian regime’.
