NEW DELHI: A Defence Ministry organisation tasked to co-ordinate between various PSUs and ordnance factories today sought more funds for research and development so that Indian companies can compete with global giants in arms export.

"The government must spend more money to develop quality product so that Indian defence PSUs and other private players can compete with international arms manufacturers," Chairman of the Society of Defence Technologists (SODET) VRS Natarajan said here today.

SODET was formed in 2001 to bring about a synergy among defence production units in the country.

Natarajan, who is also chairman and managing director of Bharat Earth Movers Ltd, said Indian defence industries have the potential to grow exponentially provided adequate spending in research and development.

"We can provide total security solution to all the developing countries, but for that to happen we will have to increase spending in research and development," he said addressing a press conference here.

He said the SODET is working with renowned MNCs in the field of technology cooperation in order to provide technical support to each defence PSUs.
