AMETHI: Union Minister Smriti Irani, who lost to Rahul Gandhi in Amethi in the last Lok Sabha polls, will be here for a day on May 26, the first anniversary of the Narendra Modi government during which she will address public meetings.

This will be the second visit of Irani to Amethi within a fortnight and comes close on the heels of a three-day tour by the Congress Vice President who represents the constituency in Lok Sabha.

Irani would first go to Salon area in Rae Bareli district where she would deposit first premium under PM Suraksha Insurance scheme benefitting 25,000 families, state BJP president Furgesh Tiwari said today. He said the Union HRD Minister would address public meetings at four places.

May 26 marks the first anniversary of the Modi government and she will possibly highlight the work done by the NDA government during one year in office. Rahul Gandhi was in the constituency for three days from May 18 during which he repeatedly raked up the issue of cancellation of a proposed food park in Amethi and targeted the Modi governnment for it.

Union Food Processing Minister Harsimrat Kaur rejected his allegations, saying that the process to cancel the food park was initiated during UPA's tenure.
