SMalegaon blast: Sadhvi's bail plea adjourned till Feb 9

Court adjourned to Feb 9 hearing of bail plea of sadhvi Pragya Thakur.

MUMBAI: A special MCOCA court on Thursday adjourned to February 9 the hearing of bail pleas of two accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast case, including that of sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur.

Special MCOCA judge Y D Shinde was hearing bail pleas filed by the sadhvi and Shivnarayan Kalsangra, two of the eleven persons against whom the Anti-Terrorism Squad has filed its chargesheet.

The ATS while opposing the bail applications said neither of the accused had been illegally detained prior to their arrest nor had they exceeded the scheduled 90-day deadline to file the chargesheet.

The bail applications should be rejected as they were devoid of merits, the council for the ATS argued.

The court is also expected to look into allegations made by the Sadhvi against ATS officials of physical and mental torture.

"The original application had been filed in the Nashik court and they would be brought to the special MCOCA court within approximately a fortnight after which the court will hear the matter," Ganesh Sovani, advocate for the sadhvi, said.
