GUWAHATI: Assam police has found operation of sleeper cell of terror outfit Jamaat- ul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) in the state. JMB is suspected to be behind the explosion on October 2 in a house at Khagragarh in Burdwan town in West Bengal.

A local court has remanded six JMB linkmen who were arrested from Barpeta district in Assam to 14 day police custody.

Assam police in a statement stated that preliminary investigation reveals that this is a part of the module operating under patronization of JMB that was involved in IED blast that took place in Burdwan.

"One of the arrested person Shaikhul Islam @ Abdulla is important member of the module operating in Assam, and associate of Shakil Ahmed @ Shamin, a JMB activist who died in the IED blast. Shaikhul Abdullah had training in Jehad in Simulia madrassa of Burdwan and also in another Madrassa in Murshidabad," the statement stated.

Police stated that instruction was given to Shaikhul to remain as sleeper cell and to look for potential Muslim youth for motivation for Jehad. Deceased Shakil Ahmed used to visit Barpeta under cover of garment business for motivating Muslim people in the name of Pan-Islamism. "Investigation is on to identify those members of module and to arrest them."
