Slap on Modi's face, should quit: Congress

Congress said Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi should resign.

NEW DELHI: Congress on Monday said Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi should resign. Scaling up its attack on BJP and its star campaigner, Congress described the apex courts order as a constitutional slap, and said that if the Gujarat chief minister had any sense of morality he would resign. The call comes just three days ahead of the third phase of elections, including Gujarat.

Clambering on to the moral high horse, party spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said: If you (Modi) have any morality, you should resign. In fact, he should have resigned at least seven years ago. But he does not feel even remotely remorseful or has any regrets (with regard to Gujarat riots). His (Modi) greed for power far exceeds any moral issues.

Making an argument for resignation, Congress argued that there cant be a bigger constitutional slap on the face of a constitutional functionary, that the apex court asks the investigating agencies to probe a serving chief minister. But this is not the first time that such a slap has been given to Mr Modi, the Congress spokesperson reminded that earlier the apex court had transferred all cases out of Gujarat and constituted the SIT.

Extending the ambit of its attack, Congress described BJPs prime ministerial candidate L K Advani as the mask for Narendra Modi.

Is LK Advani a mask for Narendra Modi? Is Advani a PM-in-waiting for Modi? Mr Singhvi asked. The party spokesperson went on to describe Advani as a helpless and scared and as a convenient mask for Modi. He said: The mask is needed as Modi might not have acceptability in the NDA.
