Six SP MLCs to Join BJP today

SP legislators CP Chand, Ravi Shankar Pappu, Rama Niranjan, Narendra Bhati and Akshay Pratap Singh are set to join the BJP on Wednesday. All of them are MLCs, whose tenure end in March. On Sunday evening, the BJP leadership gave its go-ahead for inducting the SP defectors into the party.

The names of some leaders from the BSP and Congress have also been cleared and they are also expected to join the BJP. In the coming days, there will be some sitting SP and BSP MLAs also joining the party as the modalities to join the BJP is being worked out. These leaders want to secure a party ticket for themselves in the upcoming assembly elections and that is being discussed among senior BJP leaders.

Earlier this month, the UP BJP had formed a four-member joining committee to oversee this switchover of leaders from other parties. This was done after some controversial leaders or persons joined the party and later the party had to retract its decision.
