CHINSURAH ( West Bengal): Six workers of North Brook Jute Mill have been arrested in connection with the lynching of its CEO on the mill premises at Bhadreswar in Hooghly district, police said.

Four persons were arrested yesterday while two others were picked up today, Superintendent of Police Sunil Chowdhury said.

HK Maheswari (60) was beaten up by agitated factory workers on Sunday when he rejected their demand for an increase in the weekly working hours so that they were paid more. He died later.

Describing the incident as "very unfortunate", Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had on Sunday accused CPI(M) and BJP of being behind the incident. Both the parties, however, denied the charge.
