Siwan with 29 cases is Bihar’s hotspot district

Alarmed by the spread of the deadly infection, Bihar administration has asked its senior officials to camp in Raghunathpur block of Siwan district to ensure a complete check on the movement of locals.

New Delhi: Siwan district has emerged as the Covid-19 hotspot in Bihar, accounting for 29 of the 60 confirmed cases reported by the state till Friday morning, 20 of which belong to a single family while four others have recovered.

Alarmed by the spread of the deadly infection, Bihar administration has asked its senior officials to camp in Raghunathpur block of Siwan district to ensure a complete check on the movement of locals.

Among the 29 confirmed cases in Siwan district, 20 persons are from one family and its relatives from a village located under Raghunathpur block. One family member had recently travelled to Oman, said officials.


“We are keeping a close eye on the village concerned and its adjoining areas. One company of central paramilitary forces is deployed there to ensure complete lockdown. One can’t even move from one house to another house in the area,” Bihar’s director general police Gupteshwar Pandey told ET.

Sub divisional officer of Siwan Sadar, Sanjeev Kumar, said the administration has barricaded an area of three kilometres near Panjwar village.
