Sivarama Krishnan Committee on new Andhra Pradesh state capital to submit report by August 31

VIJAYAWADA: The Sivarama Krishnan Committee constituted by the Union Home Ministry to study various options to set up the residual state of Andhra Pradesh's new post-bifurcation state capital, would not propose any particular place, one of its members said today.

Panel member and director of the National Institute of Public Finance and Policy Ratan Ray told reporters here that it would merely provide a technical and feasibility report on various places.

The committee is merely an expert and technical panel, which had no authority to finalise the location of the state's new capital, Ray said, adding it would submit a report to the Union Home Ministry by August 31 after visiting various places in Andhra Pradesh and recording people's views.

He said the committee has been collecting information from government departments on the availability of resources at concerned districts and cities.

Krishna District Collector M Raghunandana Rao gave a report to the committee on resources available in the district for a new Andhra Pradesh capital.

Later, the committee received representations from the public.
