While attending a Namaz ceremony at the Eid Ul Fitr congregation in downtown Kolkata's Red Road, Banerjee said that she will ensure people of all communities are happy and safe. Abhishek Banerjee, her nephew and Trinamool MP, and minister Javed Khan were also present at the Red Road congregation that could not be organised the last two years due the pandemic.
Banerjee also said that despite divisive politics in the country, unity prevails in West Bengal. She said that nowhere else in India can you see the unity between communities as in the state.
"A divide and rule policy is not good, neither is the isolation policy ...we want unity," Banerjee asserted, emphasizing on the need for unity between communities. "Some people talk about dividing communities...don't listen to them," she added.
Abhisek Banerjee, while speaking at the programme, said West Bengal has a culture of celebrating various religions.
