Sitaram Yechury, to share dais with Somnath Chatterjee on Jyoti Basu’s birth anniversary

KOLKATA: CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury will share the dais with expelled party leader and former Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee in Kolkata on Wednesday. The two will address a party gathering to mark Jyoti Basu’s 102nd birth anniversary.

Sharing a same platform by CPM’s top leader and one who was expelled by the party is considered to be a rarest happening in the history of the Marxists in Bengal. Some CPM leaders like party’s North 24-Parganas district secretary Sujan Chakraborty still maintain cordial relation with another expelled party leader Abdur Rezzak Mollah. Recently, Chakraborty and other had visited Mollah’s house. But the CPM has never invited Mollah to attend any function organised by it. Inviting Chatterjee to talk on Jyoti Basu along with Yechury is certainly an unprecedented happening in Bengal CPM.
