BENGALURU: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating the I Monetary Advisory pyramid scam, on Tuesday, recovered fake gold biscuits weighing 303 kg from IMA founder and prime accused Mohammed Mansoor Khan’s house.

Confirming the developments, SIT officials said the fake gold biscuits were used to convince depositors to invest in the firm.

“He used fake gold biscuits to convince his investors that he has a huge stock of gold. He hid them all in a secret place beneath the swimming pool in his house in Richmond Road,” SIT said in a press statement.

The police learnt about the fake gold while interrogating Mansoor Khan and IMA director Waseem. It is learnt that 5,880 such biscuits were found.

The Congress-JD(S) coalition, which lost the trust vote on July 23, formed the SIT to probe the high-profile deposit scam in which over 40,000 people are said to have been duped. Mansoor Khan disappeared on June 7 after leaving behind an audio message to his investors in which he blamed politicians, bureaucrats et al for the state of his company's affairs. He even threatened to commit suicide. Khan hid in Dubai, from where he sent two more video messages about wanting to surrender. He was arrested on July 19, as soon as he landed in New Delhi by the Enforcement Directorate.
