SIT likely to submit report by mid February to Supreme Court
The Special Investigation Team to submit its final report by mid-February, SIT chairman R Raghavan said.
"The investigation in some of the cases are still on. However, we will try to submit the final report to the Supreme Court by February 15, 2009," Raghavan told PTI.
SIT has already filed supplementary charge sheet in three major cases of the 2002 communal riots -- the Gulburg society case, Naroda gam case and Naroda Patiya case, where more than 30 accused are still absconding.
"Necessary actions are being taken to get information about the absconders in the various cases being investigated by us," Raghavan said.
When asked if SIT would summon some senior leaders belonging to the saffron outfits who could be involved in some of the riot cases, Raghavan declined to comment on the issue.
He also refused to comment on the issue where some of the witnesses in the riot cases being probed by SIT have retracted from their earlier statements before the Supreme Court.
Raghavan said that he knew nothing about the issue and so he cannot comment on it.
The SIT chief was in Gandhi Nagar to review the investigations done by the team and assess the progress.
