SIR process in Haryana: Nearly 1 in 3 Gurugram voters may vanish from electoral rolls

Nearly one in three registered voters in Gurugram could be removed from electoral rolls after the completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) enumeration process, with the city recording Haryana’s highest share of unverified electors. Of the 15.6 lakh registered voters, 4.6 lakh (29.3%) have been classified as absent, permanently shifted, deceased, registered elsewhere or under other categories that may lead to deletion after the claims and objections process.

Despite the Election Commission extending the verification deadline by 10 days, only around 4% more voters completed the process. Officials said the exercise has been difficult in Gurugram due to limited access to voters living in condominiums.

Neighbouring Faridabad has the second-highest number of unverified voters in the state, with 5.2 lakh of its 18.9 lakh electors (27.4%) flagged. Together, Gurugram and Faridabad account for nearly 9.7 lakh voters who could be removed from the revised rolls.


Across Haryana, 33.8 lakh voters, or 16.4% of the state’s 2 crore electorate, remain unverified. However, final deletions will only be made after examining claims and objections.

Urban districts have reported the highest share of unverified voters, with Panchkula, Sonipat, Panipat and Rohtak also recording significant numbers. In Gurugram, migration has emerged as the main reason behind unverified entries, with large numbers of voters marked as permanently shifted or absent, particularly in urban constituencies.

The draft electoral rolls will be published on July 31, after which voters can file claims and objections until August 30. Officials will complete the review by September 28, with the final electoral roll scheduled for publication on October 3.
