Sino-Indian row delayed Foxconn deal: Devendra Fadnavis
Taiwanese giant Foxconn’s proposed mega investment in Maharashtra could not happen due to tensions between India and China, state chief minister Devendra Fadnavis told ETin an interview.

Fadnavis did not elaborate, but said he was confident the investment will materialise soon as tensions between the neighbours over the Dokalam standoff have eased.

Foxconn had announced an investment of nearly .`20,000 crore to set up a giant manufacturing facility in Maharashtra in 2015. There has been no development on the proposal since.

“The Foxconn issue had slowed down thanks to tensions with China. However, with relations between India and China improving, we are hopeful the deal will go through,” said Fadnavis.

On tumultuous ties with ally Shiv Sena, Fadnavis said the saffron party’s fears of BJP trying to cut it to size were unfounded and that Sena must “introspect”.

He said Sena’s dwindling electoral fortunes could be due to blowback from the public over its attempt to play the roles of both a government ally as well as the Opposition.

Fadnavis also hinted at a future role for Nationalist Congress Party in National Democratic Alliance, saying NDA is a “very dynamic alliance”.
