Singur issue to be resolved soon: Buddha

Earlier, the chief minister said the state government would set up a knowledge finishing school in Taratolla.

KOLKATA: West Bengal chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on Thursday promised investors that the Singur issue will be resolved by this week and said he was ready to discuss all aspects with Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee.
Answering queries by investors at an IT event in Kolkata on Thursday, Mr Bhattacharjee said: "It is not a mere quarrel between two individuals, but differences between two ideas. Nevertheless, we have decided against using coercion measures to end her (Mamata's) hunger strike."
Mr Bhattacharjee on Wednesday specifically urged the media to convey his message to Ms Banerjee reiterating that he was ready for discussions on the Singur issue and that she ought to end her hunger strike which was into the fourth day.
However, the chief minister added: "In the last election, people's verdict was very clear -- consolidate success in agriculture and speed up industrialisation. Political parties should not oppose industries like Reliance, Tatas or Texmaco among other from acquiring land for industrialisation of the state. This would go against the betterment of West Bengal."
"I appealed to her on Tuesday that we are ready to discuss the matter with your leaders. I again appeal to her to give up the strike and talk to me," he said.
Earlier, the chief minister said the state government would set up a knowledge finishing school in Taratolla. In this light, the chief minister has asked professionals from IBM India, Tata Infotech and TCS to conduct classes. The state government is also in talks with MIT and the University of Cambridge for establishing business schools in Kolkata.
