Singur case: Mamata government's plea to return land before Supreme Court
KOLKATA: The Supreme Court has been hearing a special leave petition filed by the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government challenging the quashing of the Singur Land Acquisition Act 2011 by the Calcutta High Court; the Act allowed the government to reclaim 400 acres of land given to Tata Motors. The 997 acres of land was acquired from 13,000 odd owners, but around 2,400 of them did not accept compensation for their 400 acres of land. Tata Motors invested over .Rs 1,500 crore in Singur and is now seeking compensation.
