Singapore Foreign Minister K Shanmugam to visit India this week

SINGAPORE: Singapore's Foreign and Law Minister K Shanmugam will visit India this week to strengthen bilateral cooperation with the states of Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh.

Shanmugam will embark on a four-day visit to Sri Lanka and India from tomorrow, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has said.

Shanmugam will discuss how Singapore can strengthen bilateral cooperation with the states of Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh during meetings with their Chief Ministers, it said.

For the Rajasthan leg of the trip, Shanmugam will be accompanied by representatives from Singapore Cooperation Enterprise (SCE), Temasek Foundation, ITE Education Services (ITEES) and a business delegation led by International Enterprise Singapore (IES), reported Channel News Asia.

Singapore President Tony Tan Keng Yam had visited India from February 8-12, showcasing the long-standing and strong bilateral relations as the two countries mark 50 years of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

The ministry said that Shanmugam's trip to Sri Lanka is aimed at reaffirming the strong and friendly relations between Singapore and Sri Lanka. He will visit Colombo, where he will call on President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

He will also meet Minister of External Affairs Mangala Samaraweera and central bank governor Arjuna Mahendran.
