SIMI member arrested in Bangalore

A member of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) was arrested in the city on Thursday on terrorism charges .

BANGALORE: A member of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) was arrested in the city on Thursday on terrorism charges.

Yahya (32), an electrical engineer, was arrested by a team probing terror cases in the state.

A native of a village near Kozhikode, he came to Bangalore eight years ago after completing his bachelor���s degree in engineering. He stayed in Gurappanapalya.

An active member of SIMI, Yahya had contacts with terror suspects Mohammed Asif, Asadullah Abubaker and their associates.

The gang held several meetings in north Karnataka. They were preparing to strike at key installations in the state.
