Sikkim CM Prem Singh Tamang's wife Krishna Kumari Rai quits as MLA, day after taking oath

Namchi Singhithang legislator Krishna Kumari Rai has tendered resignation as an MLA. Rai is wife to chief minister Prem Singh Golay.

She recently took oath as MLA. Reasons for her resignation remain unknown.

Rai submitted her resignation to newly elected Speaker of Legislative Assembly MN Sherpa on Thursday.


Sikkim Krantikari Morcha party spokesperson Bikash Basnet said, She resigned under the consent of her husband Chief Minister Prem Singh Golay as well as the SKM party. It was mutual consent. It was her personal choice; she is also a social worker who has worked for people of Namchi for years".

The Chief Minister, himself will also be resigning as MLA from one of two constituencies Soreng-Chakung or Rhenock.

Chief Minister Prem Singh Golay, shared on social media, "She has vacated her seat in alignment with the unanimous decision of the Party, prioritizing its welfare and objectives".

Golay highlighted how Krishna Rai contested the recently held election, "at the request of the parliamentary committee of the SKM Party, she contested in the elections for the welfare of our party", shared Golay expressing gratitude for her dedication and unwavering support.

He urged Namchi Singhithang residents not to be disheartened by the news. "Please continue to have confidence in the leadership of the SKM Party, as well as in my personal care and concern for the people of the Namchi-Singithang constituency".
