Sikh groups seek UK resolution against Thatcher
WASHINGTON: Sikh rights bodies from the US, Canada and European countries today demanded a resolution by the British Parliament condemning the action of former UK premier Margaret Thatcher for her alleged role in the attack on the Golden temple in 1984.

Following the declassification of information that Special Air Service (SAS) of the UK was involved in the Golden Temple attack in 1984, US-based "Sikhs For Justice" (SFJ) with the support of Sikh groups across world demanded British Parliament should immediately pass a "resolution that action of PM Thatcher of colluding with Indira Gandhi to attack the holiest Sikh shrine was wrong".

The demand to pass resolution in British parliament is being supported by Sikh organisations in Britain, the US, Canada, Australia, Germany, Italy and Switzerland.

"The British parliament must publicly acknowledge with a resolution that the assistance afforded to the Indians in 1984 and the participation of SAS Officers was wrong," said attorney Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, legal advisor to SFJ.

SFJ said it will hold rallies next month in various countries against the British role.
