NEW DELHI: A delegation of the Sikh Welfare Society today demanded that a state-level special investigation team ( SIT) be set up to probe the 1984 anti-Sikh riot cases.

A 12-member delegation met Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal at the Secretariat here demanding setting up of SIT to probe the riots.

"We want Delhi government to form a new SIT team to investigate 1984-Sikh riot cases. There are many who are still waiting for justice. AAP had government during their last term of 49-days formed a probe team, so we went to seek the Chief Minister's help and submitted a memorandum," Satpal Singh Anand, President Sikh Welfare Society, said.

The Chief Minister told the delegation that SIT on the 1984 riots was formed by the Centre before he took charge of the office in February.

Supporting the move to probe anti-Sikh riot, Kejriwal said assured the delegation that he would peruse the matter.

Earlier, AAP leader Jarnail Singh raised the issue in Delhi Assembly claiming that a large number of people in his constituency are still waiting for justice.

"Residents of many pockets in Tilak Vihar are still waiting for justice. Even during the last term, we had made an SIT to probe riot cases. The central government has also made an independent team so we have to see how we can work together in investigating the cases," Singh earlier said.

The delegation wished the Kejriwal on the eve of Baisakhi and gifted him with a Saropa.
