Sign of weakness makes Chinese more belligerent: Punjab CM Amarinder Singh

New Delhi: Even as the AICC has termed as “shocking, unbelievable and unacceptable” the killing of Indian soldiers by the Chinese troops at Galwan Valley, Congress stalwart and Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh said it was time for the Government of India to take some stringent measures as a sign of weakness on India’s part has only been emboldening the Chinese.

“The happening in the #Galwanvalley is a continuation of violations by China. It is time now that the country stands up to these incursions. Our soldiers are not fair game that every few days officers and men are being killed and injured defending our borders. It is time now for the Govt of India to take some stringent measures. Each sign of weakness on our part makes the Chinese reaction more belligerent…,” Singh tweeted while paying his tributes to the martyrs.




Congress circles are satisfied about the CM’s remarks that have not only expressed the Congress’ sense of anguish but also positioned the party alongside the roused nationalist feelings of the people while clearly putting the onus on the Modi government to act now.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi tweeted: “Words cannot describe the pain I feel for the officer and men who sacrificed their lives for our country.” Pointing out that not a single casualty of our soldiers has occurred along the Sino-India border, that is the ‘Line of Actual Control’ for the past five decades, and lamenting the silence of the prime minister and defence minister, AICC spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said: “Will the PM and Raksha Mantri take the nation into confidence as to how could our officer and soldiers be killed as the Chinese were reportedly withdrawing from our territory in the Galwan Valley?

How, and under what circumstances, were our officer and soldiers martyred If our officer and soldiers had been killed yesterday (Monday) night, why was the statement issued today (Tuesday) at 12.52 pm and why was the statement changed after 16 minutes at 1.08 pm?”

While maintaining that “the entire country stands as one to protect India’s security and territorial integrity at all costs”, AICC demanded that the PM and defence minister explain to the nation “as to how much of our territory has been illegally occupied by the Chinese, post April/May, 2020”.
