AMRITSAR: Union Minister of State for Commerce Jairam Ramesh on saturday claimed that before the general Parliament Election, cricketer turned politician Navjot Singh Sidhu came to him and expressed his wish to join Congress Party.

Talking to the media persons on saturday Jairam said that Sidhu visited his New Delhi based residence at 24 Akbar Road and said that he was keen to contest election of member Parliament from the Patiala constituency in Punjab.

Adding further he said that at that time Sidhu was adamant for Patiala seat as it could not be given to Sidhu to contest, since sitting MP Parneet Kaur wife of Captain Amarinder Singh was hot candidate from there. But when Sidhu was declined ticket from Pataila he did not join the Congress.

"I don't know what happened to him and Sidhu agreed to contest election from Amritsar Parliament on the ticket of BJP whereas, he was earlier adamant to contest from Patiala", said Jairam.
