Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah has written a letter to Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde requesting him to release water in Krishna river and Bhima river to meet the drinking needs of both humans and livestock of Northern Karnataka.

The letter demands the concerned authorities to immediately release 2.00 TMC of water from Warna/Koyna reservoir to Krishna river and 3.00 TMC of water from Ujjani Reservoir to Bhima river.

The same request was made by the previous government led by BJP's Basavaraj Bommai during the summer season. They asked for the release of 3.00 TMC of water from Warna/Koyna rescrvoir to Krishna river and 3.00 TMC of water from Ujjani Rescrvoir to Bhima river to meet the drinking water needs of human beings and livestock.


In response, then Maharashtra government has released 1.00 TMC of water to Krishna river in the first fortnight of May 2023.

The severe summer situation in the Northern Districts of Karnataka is still prevailing and the humans and livestock are in need of water for domestic use. The monsoon in north Karnataka region is yet to commence.
