Should citizens suffer because of the apathy of ministers?
BENGALURU: Allalasandra flyover in Yelahanka and four police stations in city await official inauguration even as citizens suffer In Yelahanka, policemen stand guard over a newly-constructed railway over-bridge. Not that there is fear of vandals causing any damage to the `40-crore Allalasandra flyover. The Hoysala patrol stationed there has clear directions: Not to allow the public rom using the facility till it is officially inaugurated.

The new Allalasandra railway over-bridge promises a safe and easy passage for motorists to reach Yelahanka from the Kempegowda International Airport road (Ballari Road). The much-delayed project was completed two months ago but political leaders are yet to find time to cut the ribbon and declare it open.

And motorists are the sufferers. Those headed towards the Yelahanka New Town are forced to take the Judicial Layout road or go all the way up to Kogilu cross. This is the route motorists have used for the past three years while the bridge was under construction. They point out that the road is not only backbreaking thanks to the potholes but is also a roundabout of two km.

Understandably, motorists pushed the barricades aside to use the flyover. To prevent this, the Chikkajala police now guard the flyover. Anyone trying to commute on the bridge is booked for traffic violation, local resident K Nanjegowda said.

Mayor BN Manjunath Reddy said he political class is busy with the ongoing legislative assembly session. “It will be inaugurated soon.By then, the service road below will also be ready ,“ he said. The Allalasandra bridge is not the only facility not in use despite being completed.

Four newly-built police stations -Jnanabharathi, Gangammanagudi, Bydarahalli and Sanjaynagar -have been ready for two months but policemen continue to work out of old buildings. Home minister G Parameshwara's call sheet is apparently full. “All the four stations will be opened shortly,“ Additional Commissioner of Police (Administration) BNS Reddy said.
