Shopian case: exhumation of bodies begins

A team of senior doctors from AIIMS are here to examine exhumed bodies.

SRINAGAR: A week after CBI took over investigations into the Shopian rape and double murder case, a team of experts on Monday began exhuming the bodies of the victims after their family members gave consent for it to the probe agency.

The two -- Asiya (17) and her sister-in-law Neelofar (22) -- were raped and killed in Shopian during the intervening night of May 29-30.

Shakeel Ahmad Ahangar, brother of Asiya and husband of Neelofar, and Neelofar's father Abdul Hai gave consent for exhumation of the bodies in the court of Shopian Judicial Magistrate Malik Shabir Ahmad on September 24.

CBI took over the case from state's Special Investigation Team (SIT) recently.

A team of senior doctors from New Delhi's All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) are here to examine the exhumed bodies.
