Shiva Sena protests on Facebook posts: Uddhav Thackeray appeals for calm
MUMBAI: Tension prevailed in parts of Maharashtra after Shiv Sena activists came out on roads Sunday to protest a Face-Book post that allegedly morphed photos of Maratha warrior Shivaji and former Shiv Sena Chief Bal Thackeray and also posted objectionable remarks against them.

Sena activists came out on the roads in Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur, Mumbai and Pune to protest against the remarks.

The biggest city hit was Pune where Sainiks went on a rampage and vandalized more than 30 Pune Transport buses and they even set one bus on fire. Not just public transport, Sainiks vandalizing even private vehicles, more than a 50 of them have been vandalized since Saturday night.

When the post was brought into notice of the Pune Police they blocked the FaceBook page with the help of Mumbai Cyber Crime Cell, however, within hours of blocking the page, another Facebook post cropped with similar objectionable write ups, following which Sainiks began trooping on to the roads and began stone pelting. The police have now managed to bring down even the second post.

However, tension continues to remain as Sainiks are still trooping out on the roads in different parts of Maharashtra, though by and large besides Pune barring a few incidents of violence.

The Pune and the Hinjewadi police have booked the as yet unknown people behind the post under the Information Technology Act.
