Shiv Sena to speak against government but vote for it
A whip issued by the Sena chief whip Chandrakant Khaire said all members of the party in the Lok Sabha should remain present in the House when the motion is taken up for discussion tomorrow and support the government.
Since not supporting the government would amount to withdrawing support to it, Sena MPs would vote with the government, but there are suggestions that it should criticise its policies. This would help the Sena to show that while it supports the government, it has reservations with its policies.
The Shiv Sena has been a vocal critic of the Modi government since 2015 and has regularly panned it in party mouthpiece Saamana. It has even called the Modi government as the worst to govern India.
“You have all along been criticising the government at every available opportunity. If you give a blanket support and extol the virtues of the government in Parliament, it would raise question marks on your credibility. Some truths need to be spoken,” a party leader said.
