The Shiv Sena which is pushing for a Bharat Ratna for Vinayak Damodar Savarkar has decided to collect 10 lakh signatures from the people to get the centre to bestow the honour on Savarkar.

The first one to sign has been Sena President Uddhav Thackeray who signed on the petition on Tuesday. The move to get Savarkar a Bharat Ratna has been started by Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha MP and Editor of Shivsena mouthpiece 'Saamna'. Sena MP from Kalyan Shrikant Shinde has now started a signature drive to bolster the movement to honour Savarkar. Shinde said that the 10 lakh signatures from the public in support of giving the Bharat Ratna to Savarkar would be sent to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Shinde has said that the country needs a strong nationalist and Patriot like Savarkar and the signature campaign will help strengthen efforts to honour Savarkar.
