Shiv Sena says flock intact
Shiv Sena is taking every precaution to hold its flock of Lok Sabha MPs together and avoid any possibility of cross voting in favour of the UPA during trust vote on July 22.
Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray told media in Mumbai on Wednesday that the 12 Sena MPs stood united despite speculation over three to four Sena members defying the party whip to vote for the government.
Four Sena Lok Sabha members Bhavna Gawli from Washim, Anant Gudhe from Amravati, Tukaram Renge Patil from Parbhani, and Kalpana Narhire from Osmanabad have their constituencies altered or reserved in the delimitation exercise.
These members are also said to be disillusioned with the party leadership and looking for a chance to express their dissatisfaction, sources said. This has given rise to speculation that these MPs, who do not stand any chances of getting into the next Lok Sabha from the same constituencies, may defy the Sena whip. The Sena has 13 members in the Lok Sabha.
Ever since political uncertainty gripped the UPA government, the Sena has been in a kind of dilemma over the nuclear deal. The Sena mouthpiece Saamna had supported the deal and criticised the Left parties. But, the Sena issued a statement earlier this month supporting the NDA stand on the nuclear deal.
Earlier, the Sena had openly supported UPAs presidential nominee Pratibha Patil much to the chagrin of the NDA, in particular the BJP, which had fielded Bhairon Singh Shekhawat.
