“We have wholeheartedly suggested the name of Mohan Bhagwat for the President’s post. What is the harm if we need a firm and strong person as the President,” Uddhav said.
MUMBAI: Shiv Sena President Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday once again reiterated that the next President of the country should be RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat.

“We have wholeheartedly suggested the name of Mohan Bhagwat for the President’s post. What is the harm if we need a firm and strong person as the President,”questioned Uddhav while speaking to reporters on Tuesday.

In what is seen as a tongue in cheek remark, Uddhav while justifying his demand said, “At other places (states) you have appointed RSS men as Governors, so why not appoint Bhagwat as the President.”

Incidentally when asked about Sena leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut supporting NCP Chief Sharad Pawar for the President’s post, Uddhav didn’t seem to endorse it.

“What can I say about Pawar, Modi has called the latter his guru, he (Pawar) has also been bestowed a Padmabushan on him. I don’t know what will come in people’s (Modi’s) mind. You need to be close to someone to know what’s going on in their mind, said the Sena president. He also said that he will not be able to speak on Pawar being the President as there has been no discussion in the party about it.

The Sena President also referred to Monday’s maoist attack where 24 CRPF personnel died and the ongoing violence in Kashmir. “Violence continues in Kashmir, there has been an attack in Chattisgarh.. Probably demonetisation has not taken place in Chattisgarh and Kashmir,” said Uddhav sarcastically.

The Sena President was referring to PM Modi’s speech during the demonetisation that the exercise would curb terror.

Uddhav also took on the Maharashtra government led by the BJP, while the state government is hesitant to go for a farm loan waiver as the state doesn’t have the fiscal room; the Sena President said that the state should give a farm loan waiver.

“The farmer’s are at their wits end, they have suffered drought, the Sena will not let the farmers suffer. The state should go for a one time farm loan waiver.”said Uddhav.
