SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal will launch the first phase on November 10 from Talwandi Sabo, covering more than 65 assembly constituencies in the Malwa region. The yatra will cover two constituencies every day, with Badal travelling by road in a specially designed bus and addressing party workers and gatherings along the route.
The second phase will begin from Sri Anandpur Sahib and cover the Doaba region. The third phase will begin from Sri Akal Takht Sahib and cover the Majha region, concluding at Damdama Sahib. Each phase will thus begin and conclude at a major religious place, giving the political outreach a distinctly Panthic character.
The yatra will take Badal through all 117 assembly constituencies, allowing SAD leadership to directly engage its grassroots organisation across Malwa, Doaba and Majha. At each stop, the party is expected to mobilise workers and highlight SAD's Panthic credentials while seeking to reinforce its claim to represent Punjab's religious and regional interests.
The exercise assumes significance as SAD attempts to recover political ground after a prolonged period of electoral setbacks. The party's traditional base has come under pressure amid the emergence and consolidation of competing forces like Waris Punjab De.
By beginning and ending each leg at prominent religious places, SAD is seeking to reconnect its organisational campaign with the religious and Panthic identity that has historically been central to its politics.
